Welcome 2012! Our Christmas was lovely but 3 days later, Cooper started running a high fever and vomiting. The fever came down, vomiting stopped but a persistent sore throat and neck remained. I took him to Urgent Care (strep test-I am no dummy I could be a Dr after 18 years of parenting-not to mention my deductible is starting over today) So, yesterday we went and got the strep test done. Urgent Care nurse had a list of questions regarding his "history" Any family history of diabetes? Heart disease? Cancer" As I answered and contemplated some of the answers, I paused and Cooper said "What's that thing Preston has mom?" I said "Autism. It's really not the same". the nurse, Taylor and I all stiffled our grins.
Cooper lost a tooth this week. The tooth fairy has been a little lax and on day 3 I asked Coop how he slept. He replied "Not good." I thought it had to to with a case of strep he was currently battling. He said "The tooth fairy STILL hasn't come" I said "Oh, well, she probably is staying away from you since you are sick." Shwweeeee. Close call. He said "Yeah, you're probably right". THEN, I took it too far. "Would you like for me to email her?" He rolled his eyes (yeah, should have addressed that at the time) and said "Oh mom. No one knows THAT" UGH. LOL

making a new effort to do this more often.
We had our Kindergarten Transition Meeting today regarding Preston and his special services. It went well and I only cried once. Pretty good for me.
A few minutes ago, Preston asked for cereal. He ALWAYS calls it "Gereal" Hard G. I finally just said "Ok, you can have "Gereal" imitating him. He says "NO, it not Gereal". Points to his neck and taps it 3 times and says Kah-Kah-Kah. Cereal and annunciates it perfectly. HA!! He IS learning. He is just lazy!!!
Last week Cooper and I were watching birds. A couple of them were so ROUND. I said "Oh, they must be pregnant" and he said "why do you think they are pregnant? Maybe they just need to lay off of the bird seeds".
Some days with Preston are really rough. Yesterday I found he had colored on a wall in my bedroom and shattered a glass entertainment center door. UGH! He is a DELIGHT but also a busy guy that may make me crazy.
I mailed Taylor's residential contract to ESU yesterday. Hard to believe she will be going away to school next year.
Lots going on. I have things running through my head for writing in this blog. Things about Preston and about parenting. Things about how I always knew I would have a child with special needs. I did. I always knew that. Interesting.
Lots to do today. I promise to be more diligent in updating!!

Fall 2010
I am so bad about posting here. We have funny things happening all of the time. This week was not funny for me at all. We found out at Preston's preschool conference that he will go to Kindergarten next fall. Period. If he doesn't go he can't get services through the school district. UGH! We thought we could hold him back a year like we did Coop. Not the case. He has to move on and they will change his IEP to meet the needs of that grade level. At this point, he doesn't even know what Kindergarten IS, andis not potty trained. We have a lot to do. It's going to be a busy next 10 months. Lots to do to get us prepared.
The other night we were visiting my grandma in the hospital and Cooper started palying his DS. Thenurse stopped and asked him "What game is that you're playing?" He responded in a monotome, robotic way "I play 3rd grade Tackle Football" ??????????? LOL! CLEARLY not paying attention. His conference was good. It was as expected. He has troubles listening. Always has. I am to a point where I wonder if he should really be tested for ADD or ADHD? Really more ADD than anything. I will talk to the Dr about it next time we are there.

At the Eye Doctor's office
Always a joy to hang out at a Doctor's office with 2 bored little kids and one teen that would rather not be there-especially if the appointments are in the morning. Yesterday, in particular was a fun sort of day, as the eye Doctor's office got behind and mixed up the schedule. Preston on a normal day is pretty difficult to handle in an "office" type of situation. That being said I came armed with ammunition- Nintendo DS, games, pens, pencils, cars, paper and snacks and my new Sprint phone that has Sprint TV, including episodes of Phinius and Ferb just as a precautionary measure. I felt more than prepared-almost glorified in my ability to gather these objects and knew I had the right mixture of items to keep things at an even keel during what proved to be a long morning. I have become an expert at creating distractions that keep the boys busy. However, no one could prepare me for the 2+ hours we were to spend at the office. Cooper needed glasses. Oy. Taylor handled Preston with the expertise of a mother and she's not one yet. She took him to the car after he examination, and during Cooper's and my exam's.
Anyway, while trying on glasses, the nice lady asked Cooper "Could you please turn your ballcap around" (so that the bill would be in the back). He was defiant in his answer "No" he said. I was feeling a little more than embarrassed when I sneered at him with my wonderful mother-death-stare and said "Cooper DO what the lady said to to"....He began to turn his head back and forth saying "I can't. I don't know how"...he misunderstood her request to turn his HAT around and thought he was supposed to turn his HEAD around. The lady and I busted out laughing. It took both of us several minutes to compose ourselves and Cooper was quite embarrassed!
